How many days do you need in Albania?
How long to spend in Albania — what you can realistically see in 5, 7, 10 or 14 days, and why the country's winding roads shape every itinerary.
For a first trip, 7 to 10 days is the sweet spot for Albania. That's enough to combine the coast, the capital and at least one mountain or heritage town without spending your whole holiday in transit — which, given Albania's winding roads, is the real constraint.
How many days do you really need?
| Trip length | What you can realistically do |
|---|---|
| 5 days | Tirana + the Riviera (Sarandë, Ksamil, Butrint), or Tirana + Berat + one coast stop |
| 7 days | Tirana → Berat → Gjirokastër → Sarandë/Ksamil — the classic south loop |
| 10 days | The above plus the Albanian Alps (Theth/Valbona) in the north |
| 14 days | North to south: Shkodër, the Alps, Tirana, Berat, Gjirokastër, and the full Riviera |
Why transport time matters
Albania looks small on a map, but roads are slow and winding. Tirana to the Riviera is a 3–4 hour drive; reaching Theth in the Alps takes a scenic but slow mountain road. Build in buffer time, and don't try to cram more than one long transfer into a single day.
Getting to Albania
Nearly everyone flies into Tirana (TIA), the main international airport, then continues by car, bus or transfer. Summer fares fill up fast, so it pays to compare early.

How long is too long?
Two weeks lets you see the whole country at a relaxed pace. Beyond that, most travellers pair Albania with a neighbour — Montenegro to the north or Greece (Corfu is an hour by ferry from Sarandë) to the south.
